Just to fit In

Just to Fit in

People shouldn’t act different just to fit in with others. In the story Over the Bridge by Todd Strasser, The main characters are Seth and Adam and they are hanging out by the bridge. Adam is the cool kid in the story and Seth is the follower. Seth is trying to act cool. Also he is trying to fit in with Adam and act bad. Then at the end he realizes what to and just walks away.

Adam is the cool kid in this story and Seth is the wannabe. Seth and Adam are smoking a cigarette and Seth doesn't smoke cigarettes. Seth is just trying to fit in and be cool. In the text (page 1 paragraph 4) it says, “ it was his first and he wasn't really inhaling.” Seth was just acting or being peered pressured to smoke the cigarette.

Seth just wanted to fit in like Adam. Seth was being pressured to steal cigarettes from the cigarettes dispenser. In the text (page one, paragraph 8) it says “Adam had instructed Seth on how t feed quarters into the cigarette mooching and get a pack of Marlboro's.” This shows me that Seth is being pressured to do it even thought he knew it was wrong.

During the end of the story you see the change in Seth characterization. I believe the rising point is when Adam flicked the cigarette butt (page 4 paragraph 4) at the black car. I believe the turning point is when the black car pulls up behind them and Adam gets scared and tells on Seth even though he didn't do it. Than Seth was being forced by the guy in the car to lick the ash on his windshield and Seth was refusing, Adam was just standing there after they finish beating up Seth he realized that that Adam wasn't a good friend and walked away.
